Moving signs

The moving and unpacking seems endless, but today a friend dropped by with a house warming sign about chocolate! (The same friend who gave me that giant bag of chocolate chips.) I hung it in the kitchen alcove right beside my desk where it's visible from the kitchen, entry and living room.

And a few days ago, another friend gave me this great refrigerator magnet about cake. Both signs are so true.

When I get overwhelmed with all the schlepping and sorting, I take a break and look at the view outside and know that it's all worth it. Inside's not bad either, with these fantastic cubby shelves that were built in by a previous owner in the bedroom. I'm slowly filling them with sweaters and shoes and other good stuff. They'd be perfect for fabric except that I won't be sewing in that room.

Comfort Quilt time

Today was the fourth Tuesday, which means Comfort Quilt day at Quilt Revolution in Gig Harbor!

So far, the Comfort Quilt Project has donated almost 1,300 quilts to local breast cancer patients. I just popped in for an hour to iron and take photos because my sewing supplies are still in boxes. It was a colorful day. Here's a glimpse:

Uplifting words were quilted into this one.

Naturally, when you get quilters together there are always some other nifty stitched goodies. Below is a quilted and embellished cuff made by Audrey and a "snap purse" bought from a quilter in Tacoma.

"Snap purse" with metal tape measure inside top casing.

The outside of the store was as colorful as the inside, thanks to gorgeous flowers planted by quilter (and fellow Feet and Forker) Nancy.

Still moving

I'm still moving, slowly but surely. Dave threw his back out the day of my last post, so it's mainly been me with a few helpers moving everything. Here's my new light and bright studio before I started piling it with boxes.

After I'd been schlepping stuff for a week, a friend brought me a giant bag of chocolate chips to help get me through! I ripped into them that night and have been snacking on them daily.

The next photos aren't pretty, but they show what the studio looks like now.

Gotta take a little break with the newspaper and those chocolate chips. It's been sunny most of the past two weeks, which makes the moving more pleasurable. Still, I can't wait to get done and settled in. I can't believe how much STUFF we have, even though I'm not a big shopper ... artwork and projects from 20 years ago when the kids were little, my journals going back to my 20s, fabric that I bought new but it would be considered vintage now. I've make three major hauls to Goodwill, but still there is more. I'll keep you posted as I progress.

Have a colorful day!

Moving stalled

Dave, before the battery died.

So we got the U-Haul loaded and ...
the battery was dead.
Arghhh!!!

Dave and the two guys we hired to help jumped it and decided they'd just leave it turned on all day. I hate moving.

My barren fabric shelves. Can't wait to load them again.

Happy pin

Here's a shout out to Joan, one of my dearest friends, wearing the pin I made for her 88th birthday party. I met her in yoga class and she goes about four times at week (plus other exercise classes) and is up in downward dogs and down in pigeons with the best of us.

I'm still swamped with packing and moving, so I won't have any new work to show for awhile, but at least I can show you the purple pin. (Joan usually wears all purple to yoga class.)

GO JOAN!
Namaste : )

Have a colorful day

Moving

This isn't very colorful, but it's what's going on right now. We have to move because our landlord wants the house back. Ack! I HATE moving, but we did find a really nice house to rent on the water.

It'll probably take all month to move everything and get settled, but I'll look for some other colorful activities to post about in between packing and unpacking.

Feet and Forks hit Copalis Beach

You haven't heard from me in awhile because I've been on a Feet and Forks trip to the beach and the rain forest, all in one! We went to Copalis Beach (famed for its razor clams) on the Washington coast for two nights and I hiked, ate, beach walked, ate, talked, ate, read a cozy mystery by the fire and ate. But I didn't sew, so I don't have any sewing photos.

We were incredibly fortunate to have sunny, warm weather, considering that this was the Washington coast in April, still the rainy season.

Here are the requisite Feet photos ...

and instead of a Forks photo we did French fries.

I'm always on the lookout for anything that may inspire a quilt, whether through color, texture or pattern. Here are a few:

The hikes through the forest were green and lush:

The beach hikes were filled with light and blue skies:

The sunsets were gorgeous and definitely will show up in my painted fabric.

And here we are as the Feet and Forks Sasquatch Family:
