In Memory of Laura

My friend Laura passed away yesterday from a brain aneurism.
She was vivacious, healthy, full of life ... and suddenly she is gone ...

"My heart is breaking,"
said a stunned friend.

I was working on this quilt when I got the news that she had been rushed to the hospital. I had started it the previous day, not sure where it was heading but just wanting to handle bright fabric and be at the sewing machine. Well, among her many interests, Laura was also a quilter. So I will dedicate this unfinished piece to her.

And when I look at it and think of her, I will do as another friend advised. I will ...

"Remember her with a happy heart."

  1. Oh, Sherrie, this will be a lovely tribute. Sailing away to a better place where she will be even more vivacious I'm sure... It definitely has a happy feel to it. And working on it with Laura in mind will help you through the grief. I was able to do that when a college roommate died young from ALS. She had a thing about butterflies and I was so regretting that I'd never gotten around to making her a butterfly quilt. Then I realized, I could make one and give it to her daughter. It helped us both. Blessings to you and your friend.

  2. My heart goes out to you. I lost my mom in February over 20 years ago & that memory is still fresh...but time does heal and happy memories are indeed a part of every friendship. I'm sure Laura would love this quilt and she's with you still in myriad ways -you will find this more apparent as time goes by...
