Anacortes color and mystery knitting

Downtown art in Anacortes, WA.

Well I cannot believe that no one knew this pole sweater from the last post was in:
 ANACORTES, WA!

It's in front of Ana-Cross Stitch yarn and stitchery emporium at 719 Commercial Ave. You can see a full view in my last post.

I went inside and asked about it and found out that a group of local knitters called the Cultured Pearls (or maybe Perles) sat inside the store's window for a week knitting it to help publicize a Relay for Life Walk for breast cancer research.

You can see another one -- around a tree -- from Bellingham, WA, on my blog here: http://sherriequilt.blogspot.com/2011/08/colors-of-bellingham.html

Anacortes is a very colorful town, as you can see from this red room in a downtown bookstore, Watermark Book Co., 612 Commercial Ave. It's a kitchen in the back of the store, with the table and counters spread with food books. What a nice, cheery spot that would make for spending a gray, rainy, Northwest winter day. Friendly staff and great book selection, also.

Then it was onto the ferry -- Anacortes is the jumping off point for ferries to the San Juan Islands. We took the one to Orcas Island, where we kayaked, hiked and ate for five days. Photos to come.

My daily iced decaf nonfat no-whip mocha.

Have a ferry colorful day

  2. I have never been to Anacortes or Orcas - must put that on my "to-do" list. We finally made it to Friday Harbor on our small ship Alaska cruise a couple of years ago.The San Juans are all beautiful! It does take planning to get there, however...
