Comfort Quilt time

Last week was another Gig Harbor Comfort Quilt Project day, and this pink and green beauty is the first Comfort Quilt made by Kathleen. She quilted it beautifully, scattering it with uplifting words like "Starshine."

The Gig Harbor Quilters had a sew-in at our August guild meeting where we sewed strips diagonally onto telephone book pages to make blocks for Comfort Quilts. That's what started Kathleen on her quilt, and we continued with the same theme here:

Four or five of us worked for hours on these blocks made mainly with soft shades of apricot, green and beige. All of the quilts are donated to local breast cancer patients undergoing treatment.

As the blocks came together, we tried a few design ideas. We'll have to wait until next month to sew the blocks together, and then some lucky person will get to tear off all the paper foundations. That'll be a good movie project for a rainy night.

It's always touching when we receive a thank you note, and here's part of one that we just received:

"Oh my goodness, it is just beautiful! It is a perfect size and weight and it went with me to my first treatment on Aug. 13. I use it also as my cuddle blanket any time I need a little something extra. The gift literally made me cry. ... I never knew there were groups that work so hard and donate such beautiful items to people such as me."
