"Colors of the Harbor"
Art quilt exhibit by STITCH
Gig Harbor (WA) Library
Oct. 1 through early November
Yesterday was an exciting day for STITCH, my little art quilt group. We hung our first exhibit! It will be at the Gig Harbor Library the whole month of October and into early November (not sure of takedown date yet). I hope all of you within driving distance will come and soak in the colors.
We started by spreading out all 50 or so quilts on tables in the library's community room ...
... and then finding rods to fit each one.
We ran fishing line through the PVC rods or tied it to the ends of the wood rods and then tied it onto hooks, which were hung from the light boxes overhead.
Janet (above) decided where each piece would go and Pat (our tallest member) climbed up and down the ladder for four hours hanging everything.
I'm not bashful about showing off my piece, titled "Searching." |
Lois and Carol under their leaf quilts. |
Delaine and her glittery piece. That's Andrea's flower quilt behind her. |
After hanging the larger anchor pieces, we organized others in groups and staged them on chairs and tables near where they would hang.
Here are some more shots showing how the pieces float throughout the room:
Carol helps hang a row of small "pretty" pieces against one wall. |
Linda's "Back to School" fit perfectly in the kids' section. |
It all came together beautifully, and afterward those of us who still had time to spare adjourned to Panera's. Hope you enjoyed this little glimpse of our big day!

Have a colorful day
You artists are the bomb!
ReplyDeleteAnd what amazing quilts!
the LIBRARY IS SO FORTUNATE FOR THIS WONDERFUL DISPLAY!
My best regards to Janet and Pat For their expertise!
Gorgeous! We do this every other year, and the city provides help and a cherry-picker to hang them up. It is a very popular exhibit, and I'm always blown away at the beautiful work on display... hope you get lots of visitors!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant way to display. Love the quilts and apparently I'd love to join your group!! Too far to drive from MD though...
ReplyDeleteThe quilting in your quilt is full of movement, love it.

Great display, adds so much visual interest to the Library.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Wonderful display, I wish I could go see it in person!
ReplyDeleteOh! They all look fantastic! What a great group you have. I wish I lived closer, I d come to see them. Thank you for sharing this wonderful event - you should be very proud:-)
ReplyDeleteYears and years ago, Judi and I hung the guild's work at the library in Monroe. I'd forgotten about the fishline and hanging from the dropped ceiling supports like you've done here. But it is a very effective way to hang a show in this kind of venue. Congrats - it looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful exhibit! Wish I lived closer -- I'd love to see them in person.
ReplyDeleteI saw the quilts yesterday and they are amazing. The photos don't do them justice as it's the beautiful quilting itself that makes them so special, and the quilting doesn't show as well in a photo as it does in-person.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your beautiful quilts.
Saw your quilts today, they were just stunning! Thank you for sharing!
