I took my watch in to get a new battery today because it was losing time. The jeweler looked at it and said, "It's a solar watch." (I had forgotten. I've had it for years and it had never slowed down before.) Then we both looked outside at the heavy rain, nodded at each other, and she said, "Even your watch is depressed."
January broke a rain record for having the most number of measurable rainy days, 28 out of 31. In Gig Harbor, we got a little over 11 inches last month. And February is starting out with more of the same.
But I did find a little miracle in the neighborhood. Out of hundreds of rhododendron plants, one was in bloom! The entire bush was covered with beautiful pink flowers! My street is almost a mile long and lined with rhododendrons, but only this one was in bloom.
Inside, I turned to bright fabric -- what I always do in the long gloomy winter months. I'm free-motion quilting my row-by-row Christmas quilt in white swirls.
Have a colorful day

Oh, my... I don't know how you stand all that rain and gloom! Yes, the flowers that bloom there are fabulous. I just couldn't take all that gray... one reason why I hated living in San Francisco (not the rain, the fog) when I was a child. But your quilt is lovely. Hang in there, I know you have a sunny respite coming soon!
Who knew that watch would need the sun! You may need more lights on in the house! HA Your Christmas quilt is wonderful!
Love your quilt. I pay attention to the weather in your area. I have a nephew in Washington and a niece in Oregon. My grandson is in LA and we expect to move to Caliente CA later this year. Our weather in No. Indiana has been weird. We too are setting record rainfalls. For us the rain in January would have amounted to MASSIVE snowfalls. Rain or snow, I am anxious to go!
That is just too funny about your watch. Sorry, I should not have snickered.
xx, Carol
