Mandala didn't make the cut

"American Made Mandala," by Sherrie Spangler

This is the secret project I was working on a few weeks ago for a contest that didn't allow previous publication of entries. I just got notice that it didn't make the cut, so now I can show it.

It was for a contest by American Made Brand, which is a line of solid quilters cotton grown and processed entirely in the United States. The challenge was to make a quilt no larger than 15 inches in any direction from the American Made fabrics. They only juried in 40 out of hundreds of entries, and my mandala didn't make it :(

Have a colorful day

Hmmm - well, no telling what goes on in the minds of judges, especially with something like showcasing a fabric line. Glad you rose to the challenge. Whether or not it made the cut, you've got yourself a lovely bright mandala to grace your home.

What did you think of the fabric itself? How does it compare to say, Kona cotton solids?

It's beautiful!! And the colors, combo of machine and hand stitching are wonderful!!! I agree with above are only asking a judges opinion...if you had five judges, you would have 5 different views...some would agree but honestly, you have to take judged shows with a grain of salt. When I showed horses, in halter class for example, I wouldn't place at all in some shows and in others I'd take 1st place! You get to know which judge likes your type of horse. Same with quilting...this piece is wonderful and you should be proud.

Thanks, Idaho Beauty and Robbie. I had no real expectations of getting in, but it sure would've been nice to win one of the prizes -- a piece of each fabric in the entire line!
