Water in the desert

It was Day 13 of hiking in the desert
and I was tired, hot and crabby.

Even the blue skies seemed oppressive. The trail was supposed to follow a leafy, cool creek, but instead it was several hundred feet away -- high and dry.

We could hear the water at times, but it was hot where we were slogging along the dusty trail. Even the sight of blooming yuccas didn't lift my spirits. I needed a break.

After an hour or so we abandoned the trail and headed through shrubs and down rocky draws, searching for the water.

Found it!

We spent an hour refreshing ourselves with shade, clementines and water bottles at Wet Beaver Creek.

I was in a much better mood  when we climbed out, this time thrilled to see blooming flowers.

The walk back didn't seem quite as long. And ... I informed Dave that after we got out we were stopping at the grocery store so I could get ice cream. Screw the diet.

This is where we were.

Have a colorful day

The hot dusty trail was worth it! Love sitting by a river or creek, hearing the sounds the water makes as it meanders by. And with all the exercise you've been getting, you earned that ice cream!
