Santa Fe -- Our artsy rental

Our book club's VRBO rental in Santa Fe last week was a work of art inside and out. We don't know who owns it, but we were amazed that they allow strangers to stay there given the amount of incredible sculptures, paintings, rugs and other art that have to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, at least. But since we were splitting the rental cost six ways it was very affordable and cost less per night than a not-so-great hotel room.

Above, I'm with the statue we dubbed "George" in the living room. We all loved George!

Here are some of George's friends outside. The extensive property is like a sculpture garden, with beautifully crafted walkways winding through the native plants, perennials, a vineyard and an orchard. And from every perspective you can look out over the New Mexico hills. There were so many seating areas that I couldn't count them all, and we discovered more every time we went out.

The hot tub was very inviting, but we never got around to using it.

All of the graceful walkways were done in this style, and we saw slabs of stones waiting to be made into more paths. It seems to be a work in progress. I have no idea how many acres the property encompasses.

These two are among my favorite of the outdoor sculptures.

But my very favorite is this figure-like sculpture beside the back patio where we spent most of our time in the morning and evening. It was spectacular silhouetted against the sunset, and when the sun went down lights came on to dramatically illuminate the art.

One evening, I sat outside and watched a thunder and lightning storm roll over the hills and pass right over me.

I think the owners love large animal art.

The inside of the house was like an art gallery, plus the furniture was really comfy.

If I had to pick a favorite painting, it would be a tie between the one above for its color and whimsy and the one below for its lightness and joy.

But Mother Nature is the greatest artist of all. Here are two sunsets from the back patio. Ah, Santa Fe, I'll miss you.

Have a colorful day
