Two new finishes

"Fragments: Summer," 29"x39," by Sherrie Spangler

I just put the finishing touches (labels) on two new quilts. The first one, called "Fragments: Summer," only took a few days from painting the fabric to putting in the last hand stitch.

I used fragments of fabric plus foil candy wrappers that I've been saving for about 15 years.

The second quilt, "Wild Flowers," (from a Sue Spargo pattern) took about half a year!

I loved the process of hand appliquéing and embroidering the wool flowers and adding beads.

I tortured myself with the echo and free-motion quilting.
But I'm extremely happy with the results!

Have a colorful day

Both of these are wonderful pieces! Each unique! Love your use of the candy wrappers...I was curious when you posted peaks of this quilt. Nicely done...and Wildflowers is beautiful! Very nice workmanship!!!!

Congrats! Doesn't it feel good to finish not one, but two projects? Love the juxtaposition of the only a few days to finish with the more than a few months one. Wild Flowers is really gorgeous and that contour quilting suits it perfectly. When you started working on the other and mentioned you were using candy wrappers I had to laugh. Just the day before I'd grabbed something out of a basket and out flipped the same kind of wrapper. I too have been saving them for years but have yet incorporated them in the way I was thinking to do. Maybe the time is right!

Wonderful pieces, so totally different from each other, but beautiful in their own right! Good for you for enduring the free motion quilting... it can be daunting, but the results are worth it. What's next on your list of things to try/do?
